Important DMS Program Update

Thank you for your interest and patience as we diligently work to enhance and revitalize our Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. We are excited to share some progress updates and upcoming plans with you.

Here’s what’s happening:

Program Reopening: We plan to welcome a new cohort of 15 students in 2025. We are still fine-tuning the details for the application window and class start dates, and we will provide a detailed update by the end of June, 2024.
Curriculum Enhancement: We are updating our curriculum to include the latest advancements in technology. Additionally, we are in the process of hiring new faculty members to lead our didactic courses and labs.

Lab Modernization: Our DMS lab is being upgraded with state-of-the-art ultrasound machines and enhanced equipment to ensure our students are well-prepared for their future careers.

The DMS program at TCC is a general sonography program. Graduates of the program may attempt the national registry board exams in the specialties of abdomen & small parts, breast, and or obstetrics & gynecology. An introductory course to vascular sonography is included in this curriculum and is intended for the general sonographer who performs basic vascular sonograms. For those wishing to enter into vascular sonography or echocardiography, Bellevue College and Seattle University both offer education and experience dedicated to those areas of specialty.
It is strongly recommended that all math and science classes are completed within 5-7 years of the quarter in which you intend to apply. All other prerequisite courses do not have a time limit.

You may refer to the Common Course Equivalencies chart for some of the schools most commonly attended besides TCC. If you do not find your school on the list, please send an inquiry to the TCC transcript evaluator at credeval@tacomacc.edu.
Most of the pre-requisites for the program are listed with an “&” symbol. If you're taking classes at a Washington State community or technical college, look for the corresponding course at the other college with the & symbol, e.g. BIOL& 241. This tells you we have already aligned the learning outcomes of the course to ensure a smooth transfer of credits to TCC. Still not sure? Please talk to an advisor at the college you're currently attending.
You need to have all your prerequisites done by the application deadline of July 1. PHYS& 115 is the only exception. Only those enrolled in PHYS& 115 course at TCC during summer quarter to complete their prerequisites will be allowed to submit this course grade after the July 1 deadline.
