I have been serving as the Head English Language Tutor at the Writing & Tutoring Center since April 2024, and I consider it a great honor supporting students in their language-learning journey. I desire for students to find their "voice" and identity in English and feel confident enough as legitimate language users to pursue their own educational, career, and personal aspirations.
In 2022, I receIved a B.A. in Arts, Media, and Culture from the University of Washington Tacoma with a focus in ethnic literature and global media studies. I am a CELTA-certified English language teacher and have been teaching and tutoring adult English learners since January 2024. I am currently earning an M.Ed. in TESOL through Eastern Washington University.
At the WTC, a sun-bleached poster crookedly hangs, reading, "Whoever ceases to be a student has never been a student" (Iles, n.d.), emphasizing that educators are students in perpetuity. Learning takes strength and courage, and I am inspired by the ways TCC students exhibit these qualities. Learning is not solely a cognitive process but also an experiential process. In other words, learning occurs best by doing, not telling. I also believe that learning is a collaborative endeavor, which is why I strive to evoke a sense of togetherness by encouraging students to view themselves as members of a learning community.
