Teaching Philosophy
I firmly believe that a good teacher needs to stimulate and inspire students giving them the confidence necessary to push their limits.
I strive to help my students to realize how to take charge of their time and their learning, be proactive in asking for help, and especially to push their own boundaries and work outside the box. I would like for them to come out of my classes knowing how to appreciate art forms they would normally not be attracted to and create artworks outside their comfort zone. It is this attitude of openness that they will be will be able to apply to a variety of other disciplines and to life. Contemporary art is a mirror of our society and by learning to understand, appreciate, and be part of it I hope my students will connect with each other and their surroundings and will become more in tune with their time.
In addition to teaching, at TCC I am involved in the following committee, if you want to learn more about them please let me know! EDIC (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee) and Justice Involved Reentry Students and Staff Action Committee. Additionally, I am part of “The Safe Zone initiative” in support of LGBTQIA+ students and staff.
