TCC in the High School

Students can accelerate their academic studies by earning college credit and engaging in college level work without sacrificing their high school experience. Students can take college-level courses at participating high schools.

Lincoln high school is part of this program along with the Science and Math Institute (SAMI), School of the Arts (SOTA) and School of Industrial Design, Engineering and Art (iDEA).

Any student currently enrolled in the participating Tacoma high school who meets the course prerequisites established by TCC is eligible to participate.

Most courses are considered TCC college credits and are transferable to Washington state’s community colleges and public universities. However, TCC in the High School strongly recommends students to consult college catalogs, websites and advisors at their chosen four-year institution to ensure their credits will transfer.

The cost per credit is $65, which is about 38 percent less than an equivalent TCC course ($105.17per credit). For those students who receive free lunch benefits, the cost of tuition is $10 per credit. For those who receive reduced lunch benefits, the cost is $20 per credit.*

Once accepted, high school students are considered TCC students with all of the rights and responsibilities of any college student. They have the added benefit of earning their credits at a reduced cost on their own high school campus. And, they can tap into TCC resources, including tutoring centers, library and computer support.
