Jan. 10 Basketball Games Honor Vance Dawson

This Wednesday, the Titan Basketball teams play at Lower Columbia at home. The Women's game starts at 5:30, and the Men's game starts at 7:30. Between the games, at 7:15, there will be a short program commemorating long-time Titan Basketball announcer Vance Dawson, who passed unexpectedly last April at the age of 57.

According to SBLive Sports reporter Todd Milles, Dawson was regarded as the most entertaining public-address announcer for basketball games in the South Sound, known for the catch phrases he kept stored in his phone and for his knack of nicknaming players. Milles states that he started announcing for the Titans in 2003.

“Vance loved basketball and he loved TCC,” Athletic Director Jason Prenovost said. “He had a great voice and a quick wit. I will miss hearing him call a game and miss him as a friend. He will always be a rich part of our history!”

Athletic Coordinator Jenn Keyes said that Vance was a dedicated member of the Titan Basketball game-day team for more than 20 years. “Vance had a unique style that will be duplicated by no one. His love for the game and dedication to the sport were truly phenomenal.”

“Vance was one of a kind on the mic regardless to if he was doing a kids game, a high school, college, or even a professional game,” Head Titan Men's Basketball Coach Rachi Wortham said. "He made all demographics of people enjoy the game because of his spirit."
