Now in The Gallery: A Year of Incredible Student Art
Seven Student Art Exhibition postcard designs created by students in Anthony Culanag's Grahpic Design class.

When you walk into The Gallery, you’re greeted by eagle feather carvings created by TCC sculpture students. On the wall across from the door hangs a contemporary Coast Salish Grandfather Moon Mask, created by Native carver D’Arcy Basil, who is teaching the first of three sculpture classes at TCC this spring thanks to an Innovative Funding Grant. Carved from traditional old-growth yellow cedar, the eagle feathers are the first project the students completed with him.

The rest of the exhibition also serves as a wonderful showcase of the work created by TCC students. Anthony Culanag’s graphic design class created movie poster designs and postcards designs for the Student Art Exhibition, and his digital photography class covered a wall with colorful photos. Kyle Dillehay’s students created photography of an entirely different sort, with single-toned images printed into hand-bound books. Alice Di Certo’s two-dimensional design class created intricate mandalas and other designs. Marit Berg’s printmaking class created arresting two-toned and multi-toned prints. Karen Doten’s painting students created – among other things -- smoking ducks and curled cats.

In the three-dimensional design space, nicole gugliotti’s students created expressive sculpture, from a baby dragon to a set of tableware emblazoned with “fears,” to dinosaur skeletons etched into coffee cups. Kyle Dillehay’s students crafted textured worlds out of cardboard.

Gallery Coordinator Dr. Jennifer Olson has showcased it all beautifully, so that we can all celebrate another wonderful year of student art. Be sure to stop by The Gallery and explore the exhibition by June 6!
