Dr. Pau Abustan
Jan. 9, 1-2:30 p.m.
Register to attend the online presentation.
About the Event:
This keynote talk begins with the questions: Where, who, and what makes you feel most welcomed, most comfy, and most cozy? Why are places, people, and things associated with higher education learning and work often far from manifesting welcoming, comfy, and cozy cultures? How can students, staff, and faculty cultivate comfy, cozy, and community centered disability justice worlds of collective care and access within higher education? In this one-hour keynote, students, staff, and faculty will learn from a 10th to 20th year queer, crip, and decolonial Pilipinx scholar-activist-educator concrete actions to take to support comfy, cozy, and community centered disability justice worlds of collective care and accessibility in higher education.
Sophie Poost: Visibility is Not a Binary
Jan. 13, 10:30 a.m. - noon
Register to attend the online presentation.
About the Event:
Using storytelling, this presentation will address common myths about bisexuality and disability while addressing passing privilege from a disabled and queer perspective. Sophie will take the audience through her journey of self-identifying, coming out (and coming out, and coming out) and ongoing acceptance, as she elaborates on the battle against systemic and internalized ableism and biphobia. Sophie invites audience members to join her in questioning their preconceived notions of identity expression and community acceptance.
