ASTCC Student Government Mission Statement:

As representatives of the Tacoma Community College student body, the ASTCC Student Government's mission is to act in the best interests of all students by listening to the diverse needs and issues of students, identifying equitable solutions, and advocating for success.

About ASTCC

If you have an interest in government, civic engagement and taking a role in the direction of the welfare of TCC students, then step right up. Future leaders are born and thrive within the organization of student government. Also know as the Associated Students of TCC, or ASTCC.

Our Mission

The Office of Student Engagement empowers students to succeed through supporting relevant and comprehensive leadership development training, co-curricular programming, and other student initiated efforts which contribute to an involved and equitable campus culture.

Become An ASTCC Senator

All members of the Associated Student Body at TCC (ASTCC) are students like you -- students with a keen interest in educational, leadership and political opportunities. Any registered student at TCC may become an active part of student government.

Become a Senator and make your voice count!

Attend two consecutive Senate Meetings (held bi-monthly)
Attend an orientation session

By becoming an ASTCC Senator, you are entitled to vote on various issues regarding clubs, student budgets, and student-imposed fees. Senators may also serve on committees appointed by the ASTCC President.

What does student government do?

Members of Associated Student Body of Tacoma Community College (ASTCC) are responsible for:

The Services & Activity Fee (S&A Fee) is distributed by the Associated Student Government to fund student focused support systems within the college.

These fees are assessed through quarterly tuition. Each year, the ASTCC Executive Board calls for budget requests. The ASTCC Budget Committee then works to disseminate funds throughout the college. These funds provide:
- Student jobs
- Campus activities
- Support for student-focused services
- Programs and special projects
- Support of the Student Center

The Student Tech Fee is distributed by ASTCC to fund technology projects that benefit students.

These fees are assessed through quarterly tuition. Each year, the ASTCC Executive Board calls for tech fee requests. The Student Senate then votes on which requests to fund, and the ASTCC Budget Committee builds a budget for the allocation of funds to selected projects. These funds support:
- New and upgraded computers for student use
- Classroom technology
- eLearning technology
- Specialized equipment available for student use and check-out

Student clubs organize and support some ambitious projects, from regional and national conferences to guest speakers to film screenings. Many clubs associated with programs, such as the Student Nurse's Organization (SNO) and Radiology's Rad Tech Club, help students offset fees for mandatory conferences and trainings.

ASTCC has a crucial role representing the student voice on college committees and boards. For instance, students are involved in each Tenure Committee selection process, and the ASTCC President attends Board of Trustees meetings as a non-voting member.

- President's Council on Equity and Diversity
- Facilities Committee
- Safety Committee
- Health and Wellness Committee
- Sustainability Committee
- Access Committee
