About

OSE Position: Editor for The Challenge

What are you going to school for?  Computer Engineering. I hope to become a programmer for Wizards of the Coast as they own the title to my favorite childhood game. I plan to get my BS in Computer Engineering but I hope to get my MS.

What do you want to achieve as an Office of Student Engagement member this year?  In a broad view, I would like to get a deeper understanding of student government and to participate in the improvement of the student experience here at TCC. As an editor, I would like to get the Challenge to every student who hungers for news. I have always wondered what goes on at TCC and I feel that a student newspaper should answer that question. Every student deserves to know what goes on within their school.

What made you decide to become a TCC student?  To make a long story short, I was my junior year of high school and I had no idea of what I would do when I graduated. I had really no path but I was always told that college is the way to go, the only issue was that I had no clue where to start with college. I turned to my family for help and every single one of them started at TCC. Later my sister Jamie Johnson came to live with me and my younger brother (we are the youngest of the family and still living at home) while she was going to TCC. With my mind made up, I began to go to school with her during the summer and went to school that fall.

What advice do you have for new students starting at TCC this year?  I always suggest jumping into something like a club or a class or even OSE! If you tell yourself to stay at TCC long enough, you begin to soak up the environment and then you don't ever want to leave. If you can't find something that suits you then make it! TCC is a place of opportunity and growth, it's a chance to try something new and find your passion.

What is one thing you want TCC students to know about you that you feel will help them understand you better?  I am an open book so if you want to know something about me, feel free to just ask me directly.

If you could be any character from a childhood fairytale, book, movie, or TV show; who would you be and why?  Rand al'Thor from The Wheel of Time book series by Robert Jordan. I have always felt that I can compare with Rand in interesting ways. I would love to talk about The Wheel of Time all day long but it would take all day to describe this 14 book series!

You’re at a make-your-own sundae bar. Which toppings do you choose?  Ice cream, more ice cream, and maraschino cherries (yes plural)

If you could have any super power what would it be and why?  Psionics. I don't know if it would be considered a real super power but I am basing this on Dungeons and Dragons because that is what I know and I know that psionics is basically mind wizarding. Because who doesn't want to turn on the TV without reaching for the remote?
