Accessibility

About

Tacoma Community College strives to make our website accessible to all people, including those who use assistive technologies.

Accessible means a person with a disability is afforded the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally integrated manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use. The person with a disability must be able to obtain the information as fully, equally and independently as a person without a disability.

The Washington state community and technical college Accessible Technology Policy: Vision, Mission, Policy Statement and Recommendations for Adoption was approved by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges in March 2016. The policy outlines the system-wide commitment to provide equal, effective, and meaningful access to the benefits of technology for individuals with disabilities

To meet this commitment, we aim to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Conformance Level AA.

Current Progress on Updating Website Content

We are in the process of making our legacy website content more accessible. We are currently working on the following items:

  • Ensuring close captioning is available on all videos on our website
  • Converting informational PDFs to web pages
  • Adding descriptive alternate text tags to images
  • Rewriting links to be descriptive
  • Reviewing HTML for accessible structure (heading tags, proper use of tables, etc.).

New Content on Web Pages

New web content on the TCC website will be created following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. Our goal is for all pages to follow Level AA standards.
