Student Financial Aid Program

Purpose

To provide a student financial aid program free of discrimination and with established expectations that define satisfactory progress for all students accessing aid.

All individuals registered for classes at Tacoma Community College.

Policy

The College will provide a program of financial aid designed to help students who find it difficult or impossible to attend the College without financial assistance. This program includes grants, loans, work study and scholarships. Most financial aid opportunities are based on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid).                      Students must meet eligibility requirements for each program. Information related to financial aid programs will be reported to the Vice President of Student Affairs or to the Board upon request. It is also reported to the appropriate state and federal agencies as required. The President shall ensure compliance with all requirements related to the administration of financial aid funds.

No student will be denied the opportunity for financial assistance from the College financial aid program based on race, color, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sex, [gender identity and expression], sexual orientation, marital status, creed, religion, or status as a veteran of war.

Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Financial Aid recipients are expected to pass (successfully complete) all the credits for which they receive aid and achieve a minimum 2.00 quarterly grade point average to demonstrate satisfactory progress towards their degree or certificate. Credits are reviewed at the end of each quarter. Courses are considered successfully completed when the student earns a grade of A, B, C, D or S. Courses with grade of E, U, I, N, or W will not be considered completed.

The Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy is not the same as the Academic Progress policy.
