Policy
Rejuvenation Leave
- Rejuvenation leave may be granted for up to two (2) consecutive calendar months.
- A regular full-time exempt employee on a twelve (12)-month appointment is eligible to apply for rejuvenation leave providing the employee has served the College as a regular full-time exempt employee on a twelve (12) month appointment for at least forty-eight (48) consecutive months or for at least forty-eight (48) consecutive months since the beginning date of any prior rejuvenation leave taken.
- Upon return from the rejuvenation leave, the employee must serve in a professional status for a period commensurate with the amount of leave granted. If the employee fails to meet the obligation to serve the College for a period of time commensurate with the amount of the leave he/she is required to repay an amount equivalent to the salary received during the period of leave. College notice of separation, or employee death, shall not equate to failure to meet the obligation to serve.
- In order to be entitled to rejuvenation leave, the employee must first use all accrued annual leave in excess of thirty (30) days, (although he/she may choose to use all accrued annual leave days). The employee must use all such accrued annual leave days in excess of thirty days consecutively with and immediately prior to any approved rejuvenation leave period.
- Outside employment, which detracts from rejuvenation, during the period of rejuvenation leave is prohibited.
- Rejuvenation leave may be taken at any time during the contract year, but only at the convenience of the College and upon recommendation by the President and approval of the Board.
- Rejuvenation leave does not accrue and any such leave not taken shall lapse. Failure to take rejuvenation leave does not, however, affect the right of the employee to take and/or accrue annual leave.
- Except under highly unusual or extenuating circumstances the College may grant no more than five (5) rejuvenation leave requests to be taken during any fiscal year.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to define and establish the terms and conditions for eligibility and the use of a rejuvenation leave.

Procedure
- An employee shall first discuss the request for a rejuvenation leave with the immediate supervisor and administrator and obtain both the supervisor’s and administrator’s approval to proceed with the rejuvenation request.
- Following discussion with the supervisor and administrator, and after obtaining approval, the employee must file a written request for a rejuvenation leave to the employee’s administrator not less than 75 days prior to the requested begin date of the leave. The application request must include the need for the leave, requested begin date of the leave, and the date upon which the employee shall return from leave.
- The employee’s administrator will then forward the request to the executive staff member with a plan to cover the employee’s work during the period of rejuvenation leave.
- The employee’s executive staff member will review the request and determine whether to recommend the request to the President for review and approval. If approved, the executive staff member forwards the request to the President.
- The President, at their discretion, will review the rejuvenation leave requests and determine which requests to recommend to the Board for approval.
- The Board, at its discretion, will review the rejuvenation leave requests recommended for approval and determine which requests to approve.
